The Mental Health Awareness Coalition partnered with Your Art Your Story, Recovery Empowerment Network, stakeholders and community members, to bring a community wall mural that spreads a of joy and brings to light suicide prevention and awareness.
We know that suicide is the tenth-leading cause of death in the United States. It is the fourth-leading cause of death for adolescents ages 15-19 globally. Our hope with the mural is to shed light on us not being alone and that we can get through this together. If we can save just one life, all we are doing will be worth it.
Kristine Kollasch, a renowned community artist who was commissioned to draft and help complete this project. We had community members that were impacted by suicide participate in the painting and commemoration of the wall mural. The process was a true collaboration between health plans, providers and community members.
